“The 18 foot skiff really is a speed machine.” Exotic lightweight materials & modern technology have combined to create a highly advanced racing machine capable of speeds in excess of 50 km per hr.

TV Production
“High speed, high drama and extreme entertainment”

Race coverage will feature 26 x 26-minute programs shot from 7 locations. F1 Sail will produce its own broadcast and hold all intellectual rights to the series.

A purpose-built television production team will be developed especially for the tour and F1 Sail will cover the cost of production.

The broadcast will feature a state of the art production utilizing camera cats, helicopter aerials and onboard audio & picture technology.

The F1 Series will largely be a made-for-television series. The race locations, the boat design, race course & rules will all be tailored towards the delivery of an entertaining television product.

Unlike your traditional sailing broadcast F1 Sail will be fast & furious. The emphasis will be on high speed, high drama and extreme entertainment. The program will have a far edgier, sexier feel.

F1 Sail will aim to re-brand the image of sailing in an effort to take the sport of sailing to the masses. The production will lean towards a ‘point of view’ focus so the viewer feels like they’re part of the action & along for the ride. To achieve this effect the boats will carry helmet cameras, remote lipsticks cameras and the crews will be wired for sound. Frantic onboard activity punctuated with heated verse makes for a compelling drama.

The production style will be up tempo with plenty of colour, sound & movement. The programs will also be supported by animated race commentary, music & effects.

Close and aggressive racing in high winds on tight courses all makes for exciting race coverage.

F1 Sail will also go beyond the race coverage itself & will capture life on tour. Fly on the wall reporting will be used to capture the story behind the tour.

In depth profiles & feature stories will also be used to bring personality into the sport.

Each program will also explore local culture, colour & scenery.

Computer graphics generated from GPS tracking systems will also be used to follow  the progress of boats during race broadcast.

The fact that 2, possibly 3 races can be staged in any one day makes the broadcast highly economical.

Each race program will be post-produced with editing & commentary done after the race generally with a 7-day turn around. This makes for a superior, more economical program. Live broadcast will be a future consideration.

International distribution of the TV series is central to the success of the series. F1 sail will be distributed globally by Octagon/CSI, one of the world’s largest television sports distributors.
